Let's TAWC weddings
As the nights draw in but the festive season isn't yet fully upon us, you can start to feel just a little... grumpy. Especially if you're in the middle of wedding planning madness and there's nobody to talk to about it.
Well, there is but you don't want to bother your friends because they've got their own things going on and surely they must be bored of hearing about your wedding by now?
Or there's your parents, your siblings, or your in-laws-to-be, but they sometimes get a bit too involved and you don't want wedding world war III on your hands.
And of course there's your partner, but is that all you talk about now? You need some time out.
That's why we started TAWC - The Authentic Wedding Connection. 'We' is Ethical Weddings, wedding coach, Lesley, from Getting Married from the Inside Out and our resident Ethical Stylist, Lou. It's a place where brides and grooms can talk with other brides and grooms about creating a wedding that's true to them, share their frustrations as well as their top tips, and discuss what it means to have an ethical wedding.
We'd love you to join our new TAWC online community to kick start the conversation. Our next meet-up will be in Brighton in December but if you'd like to set one up in your area, get in touch. All meetings are free.
Green vicar update
For those of you planning a church wedding, we bring you the latest news from our green vicar, Jan Harney:
The Church of England has launched www.yourchurchwedding.org. The new website includes a planner for you to build your Church Service – dropping in names, hymn choices and so on. Once you're happy with it, you can print it out (on recycled paper of course!).
It's a great resource and is designed to build your confidence before you visit the Vicar and act as a starting point for your discussions about the day and the ceremony.
A helping hand for your honeymoon
We've got charity and green gift lists galore on Ethical Weddings - so you can let others share in your happiness while setting yourselves up for an eco married life.
But another option if you don't want more stuff is to let your guests give you a good send off by contributing to your honeymoon.
At responsibletravel.com - a directory of ethical holidays - your guests can now do just that with the honeymoon wedding gift list service. You choose a honeymoon that makes a difference and divide it up into fun and meaningful chunks such as 'Trip to National Park to see the wildlife' or 'Visit the orangutans' for your guests to pick as gifts. Find out more.
Fantastic featured suppliers
Over the last few weeks, we've had a whole host of featured suppliers covering every angle of wedding planning.
We start with the heartwarming Heartfelt Project, a women's project in South Africa which creates beautiful hand-sewn individual wedding favours from felt, using beading and traditional crafts. The proceeds help to feed and clothe the women and their families as well as contributing to a local HIV/AIDS & TB charity.
Next up is environmentally-aware photographer, Andrew Sansom, who has worked on many charity projects as well as weddings. Andrew also features in the recently released: 'How to get married in green'.
We move on to exemplary ethical wedding venue, The RSA, which since 1754 has been about encouraging and supporting innovation and creativity throughout society. Based in the heart of London, handy for public transport, hot on locally-sourced seasonal produce, and rigorous with their recycling, it's a great place to celebrate your green wedding.
More fab suppliers...and a special offer!
Ganesha is a fair trade partnership and has been supporting alternative trade since 1995 with their beautiful home furnishings and accessories from India. Inspired by everything India, from bhel puri to Bollywood, they love telling people the stories behind their products.
Following in Ganesha's Indian footsteps, a passion for handmade paper, traditional printing methods, and the environment led Vinati Gupta de Souza to set up Vinati's Paper in New Delhi in 1998, offering recycled and handmade wedding stationery while running on fair trade principles.
SPECIAL OFFER
And finally, the decadent Chocolate Couture (ring pictured above), who provides 'pure ethical indulgence' and specialises in ethical handcrafted engagement, wedding and commitment rings, has a wonderful special offer for us. Buy any wedding or engagement ring on or by Valentine's Day 2009 and get a £50 discount!
Bye for now
Well, this has turned into a rather long newsletter so we will take our leave now and look forward to catching up in December - when we'll be in a fun and festive mood!
Take care,
Katie & Jamie
