Wear your heart on your dress
We've been having a little nose around the Ethical Weddings forum, blog and directory this month and the one thing that seems to get you talking more than anything else (apologies in advance green grooms!) is what to wear.
From our keen detective work, the big dilemmas seem to be between the dress of your dreams and the ethical, green gown; but with eco chic on the up, we hope this particular either/or will soon be shopping history.
In the meantime, if you're pondering this very problem, read on to find help, inspiration or failing that, some sympathy!
The gown that keeps on giving
Soon-to-be-wed, Sarah, shares the joy of discovery in a second-hand dress with a secret; and reports on her efforts to resist the lure of some 'more is more' aisle style in her post, Ethical wedding dress dilemmas.
Totally vintageous wedding gowns
Wenona Napolitano, author of 'The Everything Green Wedding Book' due out in December, takes us on a guided tour of the vintage wedding gown, why it's green and where to get it in her article, Totally vintageous - search for an eco chic wedding gown.
Wear again bridesmaid dresses
Bridezilla is dead, long live sweet Briderella, who only wants the best for her bridesmaids - a gorgeous gown they can wear again, and with impeccable ethical credentials to boot!
But just how easy is it to achieve this admirable aim? Find out on the blog in Bridesmaid dresses you can wear again... and again and again!
More real ethical weddings
If you're more comfortable in wellies than Jimmy Choos, you'll get sympathy from our latest ethical bride on the block, Ria, whose natural habitat is most definitely not a white meringue!
Overcoming her fashion fears to slink into a simple locally-made number, Ria got back to nature in the details of her big day.
Read all about Ria and Dave's wedding and get their top tips for an ethical occasion.
If you fancy sharing your wedding story on Ethical Weddings as a lovely memento of your day, get in touch.
As Ria says:
"I sent all my family a link to your website with our wedding piccies on it. It looks grand! It's a nice way to finish off our celebrations."
Featured suppliers
Over the last month, and continuing our bridal theme, we've featured Ruth Singer Bridal, whose eco and recycled bridal accessories, as well as her bespoke wedding gowns are inspired by Ruth's passion for fashions from the past.
We've also chatted with Robyn of US-based The Rental Company, who sources green and ethical products and services to give US brides an eco wedding to remember.
And African Dowry helps make your gift list a talking point offering fun but meaningful gifts such as Village Vet Starter Kits and Primary School tree nurseries.
Special offers
Our final featured supplier this issue is Fruto del Espiritu with its Colombian fruit cocktails that make a difference. Why not take them up on their September special offer?
Order a Taster Pack - 6-Bottle Mixed Case - by 30 September 2008 to get 10% off the cost of fruit ordered for weddings celebrated by 30 September 2009. Just quote "Ethical Weddings" when asked for delivery instructions.
Or, if you prefer, Fruto del Espiritu will put the 10% into the School Fees Account for the children of the fruit factory employees. The minimum order for weddings to benefit from this offer is £60.
See you soon?
That just about wraps it up for September... except to say there's a rather last minute rumour that Ethical Weddings may be giving a little talk at The National Wedding Show next week in London and on 10-12 October in Birmingham so if you're there, do look out for us and say hi!
Take care,
Katie & Jamie
