Dear firstname,
We’ve had a busy June launching ecoescape Ireland. Our launch party in Dublin was huge fun and we were delighted that Ireland’s Minister for Food, Trevor Sargent, came to our party to say a few words about the importance of green tourism in Ireland. This was preceded by a full travel supplement on ecoescape in the Irish Times along with numerous other news reviews.
Returning to England, we were thrilled that ecoescape UK was the Ecologist’s ‘Pick of the Month’. ecoescape Ireland and ecoescape UK cost £8.99 each and can be ordered on our website. Or you can buy both books together for £14.98.
So all in all, the message is getting out there and we’re now working on exciting plans for our website and continuing to spread the message of green travel closer to home.
If you’ve visited any of the businesses on our website, don’t forget that you can write your own review in their online guestbook. Click here to search for your ecoescape business.
In this newsletter, we’ll bring you a few ideas for self-catering farm cottages in England plus an opportunity to join a tour of north east Scotland with new company, Wild at Heart. And don't forget to read our article on Cyclo-Geography and see the city with new eyes… and wheels.
Bye for now
Laura

Green buildings are not always new-builds. Renovation of old buildings can be just as important for sustainable design. The Manor House Stables are a fine example of a sympathetic and green renovation - the result of years of research to find the right materials and suppliers. Deep in rural Lincolnshire, the Bothy and the Hayloft are both self-catering apartments beset with original features like exposed beams and stable stalls. The renovation was a feat in sustainability and carried out by a local building firm. Read more…

Southlands Farm is home to an idyllic trio of cottages that were once a byre and granary store. Today they’re renovated to a high standard and incorporate many earth-friendly features along with retaining much of the original character of the buildings. Read more…

The restored stone barns at Higher Wiscombe make a styley choice for self-catering accommodation in Devon. Located in a stunning area of outstanding natural beauty, the trio of barns were once part of an apple winery. The restoration of the cottages used local flint and timber, recycled bricks and oak from the original barns. Fallen trees on the 52 acre estate feed the wood burning stoves while a 500 year old oak tree has been designated one of the Great Trees of East Devon. Read more…

Architecture and cycling are not so far removed. Well that’s according to the London Festival of Architecture taking place this month in the capital. A series of architectural bike tours are helping cyclists to see the city with new eyes exploring themes like politics, culture, infrastructure and the underground.
In response, we’ve coined the term ‘cyclo-geography’ to encourage responsible escapists to use their bicycles to explore the city. Try not to plan a route, just go wherever your instincts tell you to peddle. Maybe note down architectural structures which attract, impede or repel you. As you drift you will be re-mapping the city and drawing your own cityscape.
Save becoming an architect, cyclo-geography is designed to create an adjacency to the experience of designing your own city from the cyclo-geographer’s perspective. You can upload photos to our new Flickr group or read the full article on our website.
