The Press Association is looking for women aged between 20 to 50 who celebrated their big day in style despite being restricted by a tight budget of £500 or less.
If this sounds like you and you would like to share your story with a national newspaper or women’s magazine, please get in touch with Tanya (mentioning ‘Ethical Weddings‘) with a few words on how you managed your wedding on a budget, your telephone number and a recent photo.
If chosen for the feature, you will receive a fee for your time.
Tanya is on a tight deadline, so if you could get in touch this week she'd really appreciate it!

Real ethical weddings
A warm welcome to the April edition of our Ethical Weddings newsletter.
We have a great new real ethical wedding story for you this month. Kyleigh & Gerald got married in Dorset last year at the picturesque Kingston Country Courtyard - we can vouch for the gorgeousness of the venue as we got married there ourselves in April 2005!
Read Kyleigh & Gerald's wedding story.
We are also welcoming another ethical wedding couple to the blog. Getting married in Cumbria on 30 June this year, Em & Lachie's top tip is a good one to keep the green bridezilla in you in check!
"... go easy on yourself! The guilt factor involved in choosing one less than perfectly eco and ethical friendly item can vastly overshadow all the good you do. If you find yourself getting upset, take a look at a regular wedding site and remember how much good you’re doing with your other choices! "
See Em & Lachie's profile and read their first blog post.
Wedding planner winner
We are delighted to announce that the winners of the Sally Steele Weddings’ DIY wedding planning DVD we put up for grabs last month are Ruthe & Jonathan who are getting married in May 2009 in Galway, Ireland.
Ruthe and Jonathan say: "...we have decided to keep our day as eco-friendly and simple as possible, so are keeping caterers and venue local and are staying away from hotels and the hype that has become the norm for Irish weddings in Galway."
They are looking forward to getting their hands on the DVD wedding planner as they will soon be living in England but planning the wedding to take place in Ireland. Find out more about their wedding plans...
Meet our Ethical Weddings suppliers
This month we have been featuring three Ethical Weddings suppliers who cover three different aspects of wedding planning.
We started off with Ingle & Rhode ethical jewellery designers who are optimistic about the future of the ethical wedding movement and determined to challenge the common misconception that being ethical means compromising on quality or price. Read an interview with Ingle & Rhode.
Then it was on to 'The Dress' with third generation dressmaker, Lori del Genis of Conscious Elegance, who wanted to give women and children an alternative to the chemically-laden, assembly-line, factory created gowns that were available only in limited sizes. Read an interview with Lori.
And finally, our current featured supplier, Gants Mill, is a gorgeous green wedding venue in deepest Somerset. A family run 50 acre sheep farm with a wonderful working watermill, they generate enough renewable electricity in a year to power an average 8 households!
Read an interview with Greg of Gants Mill and snap up one of the few remaining summer Saturdays for your wedding! 5, 19 & 26 July; 30 August; 13, 20, & 27 September
Fair Trade that glitters - Saturday 10 May
Our World Fair Trade Day event - organised in collaboration with the Sussex Fair Trade Network, Cred Jewellery and Our Ethical Network - is fast approaching.
'Fair Trade that glitters' takes place on Saturday 10 May and sees Greg Valerio, Director of Cred Jewellery and one of the founding members of the Association for Responsible Mining (ARM) step up to state the case for Fair Trade certified gold and diamonds.
While the conflict diamond issue may have sparkled briefly on the red carpet after the release of the film, 'Blood Diamond', Greg is working hard to tackle the wider social and environmental impacts of gold and diamond mining and feels Fair Trade certification is the way forward.
Greg says: "We’re looking forward to the day when it is culturally unacceptable to buy a piece of jewellery that is not independently certified as socially and environmentally responsible."
We would love to see you at this exciting event at the Friends Meeting House in Brighton.
Fair Trade stalls will be open from midday while Greg will take the stage at 2pm. Get there early to make sure you get a seat!
Bye for now
Well, that's about all for April. The wedding season will be in full swing by the time you get our next newsletter so if you happen to be one of the happy couples having a May wedding, have a fantastic day... and don't forget to tell us all about it!
Take care,
Katie & Jamie
