Media News
I attended a talk by the editor and two journalists from The Times daily supplement T2 last week. T2 is a news magazine that covers news topics in more depth, its mantra is; ‘knowledge for the knowing’. All the content of T2 is also places on The Times website. Here are the main tips given to secure media coverage in the title:
• From 11am onwards they will pretty much have a plan as to what will be in the next day’s magazine, stories will need to be put forward a day or two in advance
• Read the magazine and know what it covers! Be aware of regular sections
• Case studies always help sell a story, particularly if the are linked to a news story eg if there is a news story about someone famous going back to work four days after given birth and you are aware of a similar story - put it forward if it helps your organisation communicate message
• React to what’s in the news
• T2 journalists generally don’t have time to meet up for a chat or a coffee so telephone or email is the best way to communicate
• Identify trends for home ware and fashion or suggest products you stock that fit current trends
• Form personal relationships if possible
