The Eco Chic Wedding & Home Show

The Eco Chic Wedding & Home Show

We're very busy bees this month as we get ready for our first ever Eco Chic Wedding & Home Show!

The Show takes place on Sunday 8 March from 11am - 4pm in the beautiful setting of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens & Glasshouses in Edgbaston and promises to bring together a wide range of ethical wedding and home suppliers, from eco-stationers to ethical jewellery designers, and green gift lists to seasonal flowers.

The first 100 couples can grab gorgeous green goodie bags, while Jen Marsden, author of the Green Guide for Weddings will be sharing her top tips for planning an eco-elegant day.

We would love to see you at the Show so we are offering all our Ethical Weddings couples 2 for 1 tickets (which makes it just £4 each in advance)! Quote the code ECWHS-EW09 when booking online or by phone.

For more details, visit the Show website at www.ecochicweddingandhomeshow.com

Gifts galore

Gifts galore

Ethical soon-to-be-weds are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing a wedding gift list that gives something back.

With so many other things to think about, The Lazy Environmentalist's list sounds very tempting! Polly Higgins, the founder of this eco-emporium, allows you some downtime by sourcing gifts and homewares that are not only sustainable but of high quality and beautifully made by people who care about the full lifecycle of their products.

Each item displays its Eco Footprint which tells you exactly how it has a reduced impact on the environment.

For the socially (and style) conscious, Fairgift works with 37 fair trade producer groups and co-operatives in Africa, Asia and South America to bring you a 'wedding list with a heart' - hundreds of beautiful and original fair trade gifts for the home.

From fair trade photo frames to fair trade bed linen, they've got you covered!

Ethical and eco chic

Ethical and eco chic

EcoChic was set up by Deborah Miarkowska in 2006 and works with marginalised groups in the developing world as well as artisans in the UK, offering ethical and fair trade homewares and fashion collections that have been individually handmade, using recycled and organic materials.

Delve into Deborah's online treasure trove and find intricate and unusual accessories for the finishing touch to your bridal attire, or a fair trade hand block printed taupe and rose cotton throw for the marital sofa!

'Buy What You Believe' is the motto of Ethicalsuperstore.com - the place to go for all manner of fair trade, organic and green goodies.  Serve their fair trade and organic wine at the reception, snap up Divine chocolates for ethical, edible favours, and get great green gadgets on your gift list.

You could even pick up a pair of their silky hemp wedding knickers!

Welcome to new bloggers

Welcome to new bloggers

Two new bloggers, Sam and Helen will be sharing their wedding planning stories with us on the Ethical Weddings blog.

Helen gets married this April in her local Parish Church and village hall.  Her top tips are to keep focused on the marriage rather than just the wedding day, and to think through all the options before making your choices - you might surprise yourself with a solution that's stylish, green and cheap! Read Helen's full profile.

Sam is on a similar budget to Helen and gets married this May in Devon.  Running a vegan/vegetarian household that recycles and freecycles as much as possible, Sam is keen to have a wedding that reflects their values.

Her most fun - and scary - wedding moment so far was proposing, although consuming the samples from the caterers was pretty good too! Read Sam's full profile.

See you at the Show?

Well, that's about all we've got time for now as we must get back to our Show arrangements! It would be lovely to see you there if you can make it.

Take care,

Katie & Jamie
