What's in a name? Quite a lot it would seem.

The debate in the forum on taking your other half's name is hotting up.

We have started a petition to the government to make the surname decision (whether to keep current surnames, take the husband's or wife's, or create a new surname) part of the marriage certificate.

Read the full petition and sign up here!

After the show

After the show

We had a fantastic time at the Eco Chic Wedding & Home Show last month.  The sun shone (well, most of the time) and the buzz of happy brides filled the beautiful Art Deco hall at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.

It was great to meet some of our couples in person, among them our lovely bloggers Sam and Henriette and John (of whom more later).  Exhibitors and couples alike said they were inspired by the day and left brimming with ethical wedding ideas and top tips.

Read how it went on the day and have a flick through our Eco Chic Wedding & Home Show album.

If you missed the show this time round, don't worry, we'll be doing it all over again soon.  Just watch this space!

A Heartfelt plea - can you help?

A Heartfelt plea - can you help?

The Heartfelt Project needs your ideas and inspiration.

Their fab felt favours are hand-sewn by a group of women in Makapanstad, South Africa, and each one gives a small donation to an HIV/AIDS & TB charity within the local community, as well as helping to feed and clothe the Heartfelt ladies and their families.

Julie, who runs the project, will soon be on her way to see the ladies in South Africa to work on new product designs - and she wants your ideas.  What kind of favours would you like to see from The Heartfelt Project? Take a look at the current selection and then let your imagination run wild!

Julie is keen to create something a little bespoke and different.  If your idea is among the chosen ones, they will send you the finished product as a thank you gift.

Get those thinking caps on quick - The Heartfelt Project needs your ideas by the end of April.  Send them to julie@theheartfeltproject.com

DIY Ethical Wedding Workshop

DIY Ethical Wedding Workshop

Fancy a bit of DIY for your special day? Fiona Doubleday of Nature's Larder has just the thing for you.  In the idyllic surroundings of Ewe Close Farm in Bakewell, Derbyshire, Fiona is running a DIY Ethical Wedding Workshop to show brides, grooms and their friends how they can get creative and cut costs to the pocket and the environment at the same time.

The workshop takes place on Saturday 3 October from 10am to 4pm.  Quote 'Ethical Weddings' and pay just £45 (usual price £50) when booking before the end of May.  This price includes all materials and a delicious farmhouse lunch.

Hurry though as there are only 20 places and they're going like cupcakes! To find out more or to book your place, email Fiona.

Real ethical wedding inspiration

Real ethical wedding inspiration

We've been busy adding your ethical wedding stories to the website this month.

First up are Sarah and Theo who had a 'secretly green wedding' at that gorgeous green venue, the RSA in London.  A delicious veggie menu and homemade gifts from their guests were the icing on the proverbial cake.

Sarah and Marc had a small but stylish wedding in Manchester last September with a wedding cake of vegan organic chocolate brownies a particular highlight.

And finally our prolific blogger bride Jenny and her husband Phil spill the fair trade coffee beans on their Berkshire wedding, from a bio-sustainable sillk wedding dress to a free-range hen party.

More ethical wedding bloggers

We mustn't forget our couples who are in the middle of planning and sharing their updates with us on the Ethical Weddings blog.

Henriette and John will wed in May and are all set for a humanist wedding.  Family and friends are already getting involved and it should be a fun and informal affair.

Denise, meanwhile, is the Green Queen and so was always going to set her sights on a green wedding.  She's on the lookout for secondhand bargains - from antique rings to an ebay wedding dress - to get her party started.

And last but not least, bloggers Helen and Mike get married this month! We hope you'll join us in wishing them all the very best for their big day.  Catch Helen and Mike's latest posts.

Happy holidays

It's been rather a news-filled month so it's definitely time to relax over the Easter break.  Have happy holidays everyone!

Take care,

Katie & Jamie
